Copper-alloy. Ashmolean Museum exhibit marked 'Faversham 1873'. Circumstances of find not known.
Complete example. Vertical arm has a a moulded finial, a slot for the balance arm, and a spiked terminal below a round platform to allow the balance on to be set up on a flat surface. The balance arm has a round coin tray.
Height - 8.4cm. Length of balance arm 5.7cm.

Complete example - similar in style to Catalogue no.2 but with a spike for setting up.
Weight to balance 20 grains - used with 20 grain penny of 1344-51 (may have been adaptable for use with other coins).

Copper-alloy. Found on the site of Stourbridge Fair, Cambridgeshire in the 19th century and presented to the Ashmolean Museum by Sir Arthur Evans.
Complete example. Vertical arm has an acorn finial and a pointed lower terminal. The main body has chamfered edges and a slightly raised panel above the slot for the balance arm consisting of a saltire with pellets in the angles.
Height - 8.4cm. Length of balance arm 7.5cm.
Weight to balance 17.74 grains - used with 18 grain penny of 1351-1412
